Ruslaan (2024) Movie Review: A Journey of Patriotism and Redemption

Ruslaan (2024) is an action-packed drama that follows the journey of its titular character, played by Aayush Sharma. Ruslaan is a former agent with a dark past, accused of terrorism. He is determined to clear his name and prove his loyalty to his country. Disobeying direct orders from his superiors due to his impulsive nature, Ruslaan fights not only against external enemies but also against the shadow of a terrorist legacy linked to his family.

As Ruslaan embarks on his mission to reclaim his honor, he faces numerous challenges that test his patriotism and courage. His ultimate goal is to prove that, despite his family history, he is a true patriot willing to sacrifice everything for his country.

Star Performances

Aayush Sharma delivers a strong performance as Ruslaan, a character constantly engaged in physical and emotional battles. His portrayal of the complex, action-driven protagonist is a highlight of the movie. While Sharma shines in the action sequences, some emotional aspects of his character could have been explored more deeply.

Sushrii Mishraa as Vaani supports Sharma’s character well but struggles with the limited emotional depth of the love story. Despite this, her presence adds necessary layers to Ruslaan’s personal journey.

Jagapathi Babu as Sameer Singh and Vidya Malvade as Mantra contribute powerfully to the film with their well-delivered performances, adding weight to key moments. Beena Banerjee, Sal Yusuf, and Sangay Tsheltrim also perform commendably in their respective roles.

Direction and Screenplay

Directed by Karan Lalit Butani, Ruslaan brings together action, personal struggle, and patriotism. While the film’s premise — a man proving that he is not defined by his terrorist background — is promising, the execution feels somewhat uneven. The movie avoids slipping into predictable, jingoistic storytelling often seen in patriotic films, which is a refreshing change. The script, penned by Yunus Sajawal, Kavin Dave, and Shiva, touches on themes of personal redemption and loyalty to one’s country, but certain plot points could have been more nuanced.

Cinematography and Music

The cinematography by G. Sreenivas Reddy captures the intense action scenes effectively. While the visual presentation supports the film’s tone, it doesn’t stand out as particularly groundbreaking. The action sequences are well-shot, keeping the audience engaged, but the film doesn’t break any new ground in visual storytelling.

The music, composed by Vishal Mishra, Rajat Nagpal, and Akashdeep Sengupta, complements the film’s atmosphere, especially in the action sequences. However, the soundtrack lacks memorable hits that could elevate key emotional moments.

Conclusion

Ruslaan is a film that offers plenty of action, driven by a strong performance from Aayush Sharma. While the story is engaging and has moments of intense drama, it remains predictable in parts. The movie’s biggest strength lies in its ability to avoid over-the-top nationalism, focusing instead on Ruslaan’s personal redemption.
