Based on his novel Shankhumukhi, Shaji Kailas and G. R. Indugopan created the 2022 Indian Malayalam action thriller film Kaapa Movie. It featured Prithviraj Sukumaran, Asif Ali, Aparna Balamurali, and Anna Ben and was produced by Fefka Writers Union, Theatre of Dream, and Saregama India Limited.
Kaapa was released on December 22, 2022, to mixed reviews from critics.

Kaapa Malayalam Movie: Storyline
Anand, an IT professional, and his pregnant wife, Binu Thrivikraman, recently relocated from Bangalore to Thiruvananthapuram. During a routine police check in their neighbourhood, Anand realises that his wife’s name is on the “KAAPA” (Kerala Anti-Social Activities Prevention Act) list, which contains the characters of all the local gangsters. Anand decides to clear Binu’s name and sends her to his hometown to give birth safely.
Anand meets Arun, a police constable, and learns about Binu’s involvement in leading a gang and her rivalry with the city’s leading gangster and upcoming politician, Kotta Madhu. He helps Binu and later discovers that Latheef has hired thugs to kill Madhu. Latheef reveals that his rivalry with Madhu led to the exile of his cousin Nazeer to the United Arab Emirates, and asks Anand to broker a truce between him and Madhu. Madhu reluctantly agrees and shows up at the place of the truce, only to be killed by a boy whose life was ruined by Madhu’s orders to bomb an assassin, for which he was sent to a juvenile prison.
Before leaving the building, Anand pays his last respects to Madhu. He expresses regret for letting Latheef take advantage of him. Prameela learns from Madhu’s autopsy report that Binu is wearing Madhu’s ring, revealing that she was the mastermind behind Madhu’s death and Latheef was her family friend. Binu was also a faceless gang leader who attempted to murder Madhu, while Anand proved her innocence. Prameela calls Binu and promises to avenge Madhu’s death, while Binu promises to protect her family without Anand’s knowledge.
